Open Sores from Open Source?

Vi a Open Source Worse than Flying i read "I'm sitting here...wondering when the Linux freaks are going to solve their Ubuntu versus Mandriva color scheme debate or maybe even write a printer driver so that something I buy actually works with my open sores PC.&qout;

I actually ask why this person writes blogs like that? Why would anyone? - Because it's fun.... The same goes for devicedriver writing (why take it out on the linux developer, and not on the vendor, who does produce MS Windows © drivers, but not the other platforms in way to many cases), distribution management and all that stuff. If you're not paid to do it, it means you volunteer, which means you're doing it for fun and/or the good cause.

And getting color-schemes right, is part of having fun i guess. Not that i'm in the debate, or do anything with it, i can image the fun why anyone would do it. But by far, i see the blog as a compliment to the Open Source community. I guess people start to expact the same thing from volunteers as from paid people (i know people are also paid to make linux better, but that's probabely not quite that often better for the end consumer, but more for bigger companies). What i don' understand about this writer, is when you have Open Sores from Open Source, why not use another operating system, or simply fix it yourself: that's the spirit of Open Source.
